Well done. Yours is also the only analysis I&amp;#39;ve seen so far to also refer to &amp;quot;Check on It&amp;quot; which I think does illuminate the discussion (I&amp;#39;m assuming they weren&amp;#39;t co-written by the same men, but perhaps the writers for &amp;quot;Single Ladies&amp;quot; were riffing off of the earlier song in some way).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I had also been talkign with a friend on FB who just dismissed &amp;quot;Single Ladies&amp;quot; as &amp;quot;bad writing&amp;quot; because the &amp;quot;it&amp;quot; reference wasn&amp;#39;t clear, which struck me as odd as I&amp;#39;ve always found it disturbingly clear. Actually, I wonder which song&amp;#39;s use of &amp;quot;it&amp;quot; is worse. &amp;quot;Single Ladies&amp;quot; seems to conflate sexuality with everything else while &amp;quot;Check on It&amp;quot; is only about sexual desire, and seems to at least suggest she&amp;#39;s pursuing her desires for their own sake rather than just to tweak an ex-lover, but the earlier song also suggests some staggeringly low criteria for partner choice (&amp;quot;as long as you don&amp;#39;t grab it?&amp;quot; really, that&amp;#39;s it?).</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7023785422091414496/638996750256594015/comments/default/2533367355481873757'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7023785422091414496/638996750256594015/comments/default/2533367355481873757'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.clebilicious.com/2009/05/beyonce-and-impersonal-pronoun.html?showComment=1294001256423#c2533367355481873757' title=''/><author><name>Carl Walker</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/10844566112033689884</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email><gd:image xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' rel='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005#thumbnail' width='16' height='16' src='http://img2.blogblog.com/img/b16-rounded.gif'/></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.clebilicious.com/2009/05/beyonce-and-impersonal-pronoun.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7023785422091414496.post-638996750256594015' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/7023785422091414496/posts/default/638996750256594015' type='text/html'/><gd:extendedProperty xmlns:gd='http://schemas.google.com/g/2005' name='blogger.itemClass' value='pid-142584199'/></entry></feed>
