Roses with their thorns and beauty spread across a small part of my garden. The cultivar called "pink knock out" sounds like a fingernail polish name some one dreamed up at Revlon. I never was a rose person either but these gems, low lying and spreading onto stones are a joy to see every evening after work in the summer. They just keep on blooming for months if you "dead head" them. Sounds like a Jerry Garcia thing but it's way cooler to me.
I love your writing about plants and learn so much from your botanical skills.

what a beautiful and transporting post! As a complete garden dabbler who enjoys the care and carefulness of my more consistent sisters, I am overjoyed at the summer's vegetable bounties, but could never pull them off myself. I yearn for flowers, but haven't succeeded in really growing any. My dilettante status does afford indulgent vicarious living; I love this narrative and am so grateful for your writing.
